Cranberry extract (Vaccinum oxycoccus) is a natural fruit extract rich in proanthocyanidins(PACs), a bioactive phytochemical that prevents dental wear and causes inhibition of plaque regrowth. AIM: This systematic review shows the use of natural cranberry extract to prevent dental erosion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this systematic review, seven databases(Google Scholar, PubMed, Ovid, Lilacs, Cochrane, Wiley) were searched with relevant keywords for articles related to the aim of this systematic review. The databases were searched with no predefined time limit. After thorough evaluation, out of 115 articles, a total of 5 articles were related to the aim of the research topic and satisfied the eligibility criteria. RESULTS: Five studies were reviewed. In all the studies, proanthocyanidin rich cranberry extract has proven to be effective in preventing dental erosion. CONCLUSION: Hence, cranberry extract can be used as a natural alternative for reducing dental erosion.
