A Descriptive Study of the Effect of COVID-19 on Iraqi Engineering Projects

Abstract

The construction sector is an essential pillar of the country, including its economic and social development. The coronavirus disease, declared by the World Health Organization as a global pandemic, has caused the economies of the Middle East region to suffer greatly due to measures to control its spread. This research discusses the impact of Corona on engineering projects. Where a closed questionnaire was made consisting of 25 questions that included many axes and was sent to 51 people working in engineering projects in Iraq, and a statistical analysis was done using the spss program. The reasons that affected the arrival of materials for the project and the impact of the pandemic on project expenses, schedule and contracts with contractors. In addition, the challenges and strategies that have accompanied projects during the pandemic are studied. In the end, this epidemic caused huge losses to engineering companies.
