Abstract

Examination of the determinants that shape entrepreneurial intention has turned out to beimportant for understanding the different entrepreneurial behavioural patterns in existence across theeconomies. For this reason, a growing cohort of researchers in the field of entrepreneurship has renewed their interest in studying the concept of entrepreneurial intention with regard to the factors that generate it. In this studythe theory of planned behaviour by Ajzen (1991) has been applied to studythe intention for entrepreneurship among the Business Management University students in Dammam University Saudi Arabia.Theintention for entrepreneurship has been considered to be a function of the three determinants:  attitude, social norm, and controlled behaviour. The two additional contextual determinants, short-term risk taking preference and psychological well-being have also been explored in this study. A random sampling survey method was used for data collection from the Business Management University students enrolled in CBA, Dammam University, Saudi Arabia. The total of 275 survey responses were obtained with a reasonable response rate of 87.5%. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used for data analysis and relationship interpretation. The findings indicate that the social norm, controlled behaviour, short-term risk taking preference and psychological well-being determinants are positively associated with students entrepreneurial intention. On the other hand, the study reveals that the determinant of   attitude does not produce a significant impact on entrepreneurial intention. The study concludes with the suggestion that the university authorities should orient their pedagogy strategies with the main focus on determinants that foster entrepreneurial intention among their enrolled students.  Moreover, in order to generalize the findings and validate new measures for the same study model it is proposed that the future studies should increase the sample size for a wider research scope exploration.
