Analysis of the Research Progress on SAO Structure-based Patent Semantic Mining Technology

Abstract

As a semantic analysis method, SAO is widely used in patent documents. At present, it mainly focuses on patent technology efficacy analysis, emerging technology and topic identification, technology evolution analysis, partner identification and infringement analysis, as well as the improvement of related methods. However, there are few comprehensive and systematic analysis on this method, which makes its application limited to the existing patent based scientific and technological literature. This paper analyzes the background, development process and current situation of SAO method through literature review, and summarizes its core characteristics and limitations. It is pointed out that the calculation and application based on similarity cannot find the most promising technology ahead of competitors, and the research based on differentiation should be the direction of future research.
