Abstract

To identify the mechanism underlying the oxygen-deficient passivation of pyrophoric active ferrous sulfide, a gas passivation experiment was conducted. In this experiment, pyrophoric active ferrous sulfide was synthesized in a laboratory by using a self-built gas passivation apparatus. The passivation behavior of pyrophoric active ferrous sulfide was studied, using a passivation gas with different concentrations of oxygen. The effects of passivation over different durations were evaluated using an adiabatic reaction calorimeter. The samples before and after passivation were analyzed and tested using an electron probe microanalyzer and a Raman spectrometer. The mechanism underlying the oxygen-deficient passivation of active ferrous sulfide was identified. The research results lay the foundation for the application of ferrous sulfide gas passivation technology in various fields.
