Performance Analysis of IRS (Intelligent Reflecting Surface) Assisted RF Link over Different Wireless Channels
Abstract
IRS is a promising technology that can enhance the performance of wireless communication systems. IRS is a planar surface equipped with a vast number of small passive reflecting elements. Every element is reconfigurable and capable of inducing phase shift to the incoming signals independently. In this work, we have analyzed the performance improvement in a communication system by making use of IRS and compared the performance of different scenarios of the communication system, which include:
Scenario1:Direct line of sight between the source and the user (destination).
Scenario2:When Communication is not possible due to some blockage, the Communication only occurs via the IRS.
From the obtained results, we analyzed that even if the direct link is blocked, still Communication is possible by using IRS. We also observed that scenario 2 gives better performance than scenario 1.
