Abstract

To present a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is an independent network which comprises several mobile nodes linked via multi-hop wireless connections. The topology of the MANET gets varied owing to the mobility of the mobile nodes (MN). In order to accomplish minimal message overload and high stability in the network, clustering techniques are devised which partitions the network into distinct clusters. The process of grouping the MNs has the benefit of managing congestion and repairing the topology. The clustering of MNs in MANET can be considered as an optimization problem which can be solved by the use of metaheuristic optimization algorithms. This study devises a new energy aware cat swarm optimization based secure clustering (EACSOSC) protocol for MANET. The proposed EACSOSC technique aims to choose the cluster heads (CHs) among the MNs and organize clusters in the network. The EACSOSC technique derives a fitness function using five input parameters. Besides, in order to accomplish security in MANET, trust factor is also considered as one of the parameters involved in the fitness function. The performance of the EACSOSC technique is examined in different aspects. A detailed comparison study is performed to showcase the better outcomes of the proposed EACSOSC technique over the recent state of art clustering techniques in MANET.
