Abstract

his paper proposes the design and control of a three phase four wire DSTATCOM (Distribution Static Compensator) for elimination of several PQ (Power Quality) issues namely harmonics, reactive power, load unbalancing and neutral current. A three phase VSC (Voltage Source Converter) and a zig-zag transformer-based configuration, is utilized as a DSTATCOM. The zig-zag transformer is operated to provide a suitable path for load neutral current and other power quality problems are mitigated by designing a suitable control for VSC. The control of VSC is developed using EDS (Euclidean Direction Search) technique based adaptive control theory. This control algorithm is designed to extricate fundamental constituents from the load current and used to generate switching pulses for VSC. The improved behavior of proposed EDS based control is observed by comparing it with other existing controllers. Adaptive neuro fuzzy controller will be designed to reduce the harmonics in the current. The work will be carried out using Matlab-Simulink software.
