Abstract

Power system performance may be defined as the performance study of power system during normal operating condition, fault condition and after removal of fault. A novel concept of utilizing aphotovoltaic (PV) solar farm inverter as STATCOM,called PV-STATCOM using fuzzy controller isproposed in this paper, for improving stable powertransfer limits of the interconnected transmissionsystem. During different operating conditions systemhas different real and reactive power flow which isrequired to be controlled to enhance the system powertransfer capability, transient stability and reduce thelosses in the system. For this purpose, recent trend is theuse of FACTS control devices. The PV-STATCOMimproves the stable transmission limits substantially inthe night and in the day even while generating largeamounts of real power.The main function of the LCL filter is to reduce high-order harmonics on the outputhowever poor design may cause a distortion increase. Here we will compare charecteristics of LCL filter with LCL filter to find out the better option for reducing harmonic content to a large extent. We are using the fuzzy controller compared to other controllers. The fuzzy controller is the most suitable for the human decision-making mechanism, providing the operation of an electronic system with decisions of experts. Power transfer increases are also demonstrated in the same power system for: 1) two solar farms operating as PVSTATCOMs and 2) a solar farm as PV-STATCOM and an inverter-based wind farm with similar STATCOM controls. By using the fuzzy controller for a nonlinear system allows for a reduction of uncertain effects in the system control and improve the efficiency. By using the simulation results we can analyze the proposed method.
