Abstract

Reliable Cooperative Transmission Protocol (RCTP) for ensuring transmission success in VANET is developed in this paper. In RCTP, during data transmission from a vehicle, the frame error rate (FER) and transmission success ratio (TSR) are evaluated at the target vehicle. Based on these measured values, the transmission type of the vehicle is adaptively determined as (DI)RECT or (CO)OPERATIVE. In cooperative type, the source vehicle selects the candidate cooperative nodes based on the residence time and distance to the destination.  Simulation results show that the proposed RCTP protocol has minimized energy consumption, latency and transmission overhead with maximized TSR.
