Evaluating the Provision of Natural Lighting in the Spaces of the Economic Urban Dwelling in the City of Mosul
Abstract
The research deals with natural lighting in the contemporary economic urban dwelling with the limited facade, in which there are some opinions claiming limited lighting in it without relying on a well-studied and clear scientific analysis. The research aims to evaluate the performance of the contemporary economic dwelling in the city of Mosul in providing sufficient natural lighting for its various spaces and the positive and negative effects for the factors affecting this performance represented by the impact of the social factor on the distribution of spaces in the facade, the buildings density, the type of space organization for the dwelling and the presentation of its facade. To achieve the goal, 24 models of contemporary dwelling with limited area in the city were selected as a study sample that covers in its diversity the different possibilities of the mentioned influencing factors. The VELUX program was used to conduct a natural simulation and to test the quantities of natural lighting achieved for the different dwelling spaces to obtain the necessary conclusions that contribute to the real evaluation of the provision of natural lighting in these dwellings and to identify the negatives or positives posed by changes in the factors affecting this evaluation.
