Abstract

The rapid growth in human civilization comes with a more advanced transportation system across the world, metro transportation system is one of them. It is becoming a requirement in developed cities as well as in the urban areas where the population is high. In India, many states have metro stations and many are building this transportation facility. Madhya Pradesh is one of them. In the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal it is in phase I where the metro is about to start, the construction is completed any time soon. The different component of a metro system includes a pier, girder, pier cap, foundation, etc. with a series of the viaduct. In this research paper, we will discuss the component pier and study the design with the help of Force based design approach which proves to be not that effective. Also, the Direct displacement-based design is discussed as it is more popular in recent years. First, the structural analysis is done by both the types, and designing is done as per the Indian Railway standards for different components and a comparison was made.
