Abstract

Academic institutions are involved in the process of educating and equipping students for job not existing at present. New roles and positions will be constituted due to the Industry 4.0 needs, and consequently employers will require new skill set and abilities from the students. There is a need to change instructing and instructive methods in a wide range of schools, and rather than being particular barely in one region, training should zero in on a lot more extensive outline, as individuals should be taught in foundational and interdisciplinary speculation at a wide range of schools, including non-technical ones. The primary objective of the study is to understand the skill gap existing among the students to meet the Industry 4.0 requirements, more specifically to understand the expected skill set by the industries to meet the fourth industrial revolution, to study the level of awareness and extent of readiness among the faculty and students regarding the Industry 4.0 requirements and to analyze the gap in the perception among the Industry, faculty and Students regarding the skill requirements. The study assumes the nature of descriptive research. Random sampling method is used to identify the respondents and Data has been collected from 2442 students, 1936 faculty and 63 industry practitioners in Tamil Nadu using three sets of specially designed questionnaire. Statistical techniques used for analysis included mean score and Anova. SPSS software was used for data analysis. The study reveals the vital skill sets expected by the industries to meet the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The study helps in identifying the level of awareness among the students and faculty regarding the Industry 4.0 requirements and displays the primary skill sets possessed by the students to meet the 4th Industrial Revolution’s expectations. The research also highlights the gap in the perception among the Students, Faculty and HR regarding the skill set requirements.
