Economic Benefits of Battery Energy Storage System with Solid State Transformer Based Charging of Electric Bus
Abstract
This paper investigates the economic benefits of installing lithium-ion battery storage at an electric bus fast charging station. The size of the energy storage as well as the maximum power outtake from the grid is optimized in order to minimize the total annual cost of the connection. The fast charging station integrated with battery energy storage system is connected to LV grid ,decreases the yearly cost of connection .On the other hand ,grid owners want to invest in new transformers,in this case, solid state transformers ,for enhancing the grid capacity. But BESS integration ,cost wise will not be a good option to decrease the investments. If the power demand is high and also the bus frequency of longer duration on the charging station. These two factors will benefit the storage system economically. The main advantage is grid owners will receive reduced bill due to storage system.
