Edge Self-Monitoring and Packet-Forwarding Scheme against Maliciously Packet-Dropping Nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks
The wireless SensorNetworks (WSNs) are emergingtechnology in wireless networking as they can serve large scale highspeed internet access. Due to its wireless multi-hop feature, wirelesssensor network is prone to suffer from many attacks, such as denial ofservice attack (DoS). We consider a special case of DoS attack whichis selective forwarding attack (gray hole attack). In such attack,a misbehaving senses router selectively drops the packets it receivesfrom its predecessor mesh router. It is very hard to detect that packetloss is due to medium access collision, bad channel quality orbecause of selective forwarding attack. In this paper, we present amethodology of intrusion detection of selective forwarding attack.
