Organizational Effectiveness Guideline of Elder Long Term Care Facility

Abstract

Thailand clearly entered an aging society in the year of 2021, the number of elderly people in need of care has increased. However, the government elderly nursing homes are insufficient to meet the rise of demand. Due to this the private sector has established a large number of elderly long-term care facilities for the elderly. The objectives of this study were to: 1) study the level of importance of organizational effectiveness of the elderly long-term care facility; 2) study the influence of visionary leadership, marketing strategy, employee engagement, and the potential of employees to the organizational effectiveness of the elderly long-term care facility; and 3) establish the guideline to increase organizational effectiveness of the elderly long-term care facility. This research employed a mixed research methodology combining a quantitative and qualitative research methods. In quantitative research method, the stratified random sampling was employed in this study. The strata were entrepreneurs/executives and employees of private elderly long-term care facility in Bangkok. The sample size consisted of 340 people; it was calculated by 20 times of the observed variable. The questionnaires were distributed, and the data were analyzed by structural equation model. In qualitative research method, the structured interviews were conducted with 18 key informants. The sample informants were 1) six government and private executives involved in the elderly care system; 2) four executives of the government elderly long-term care facility; 3) four executives of the private elderly long-term care facility; and 4) four elderly or their relatives who are staying in the elderly long-term care facility. The research findings indicated that: 1) the level of importance of organizational effectiveness of the elderly long-term care facility was high; 2) the potential of employees, employee engagement, visionary leadership, and marketing strategy were a direct influence to the organizational effectiveness of the elderly long-term care facility, respectively; and 3) guideline to increase organizational effectiveness of the elderly long-term care facility are: (1) establish care quality standards and service for being a leader in business; (2) employee continuous development in knowledge, competence, and care skills; (3) create the climate and activities that support and strengthen employee engagement; and (4) analysis and pricing that is appropriate for the quality of care to attract target groups to make decisions to use the service. The results of this research will contribute to the policy-making executives in the public and private sectors who will involve in the elderly long-term care for the good quality of life of the elderly.
