Abstract

Engaging in social networking under the influence can give others wrong information about one’s true self and have severe repercussions like blackmail and cyberbullying. In this paper, an Arduino based system to prevent social media use when under such influence is proposed. The Ultrasonic Sensor(HC-SR04) and Grove-Gas Sensor(MQ3) alcohol sensor are attached to the Arduino Uno. The MQ3 sensor detects the alcohol level in the user’s breath and blocks the social media sites if the detected level is above a permissible threshold. An alert message is sent through messaging client to a specific list of the user’s emergency contacts when the detected level is above threshold. Since people have varying tolerance levels to alcohol, a distance-based unblocking mechanism using the ultrasonic sensors is also provided in case the user feels he’s sober enough to continue.
