Renovation of Deteriorated Concrete Structure Due to Corrosions

Abstract

This review article would highlightsome strategies for renovating concrete structures and restoring the strength, durability and appearance. Existing concrete buildings’ conditions are very difficult to evaluate visually. Therefore, the most challenge that facing structural engineers in practice is assessing existed concrete structure to determine the load caring capacity (strength) of individual components and consequently the entire building. Hence, depending on several type of tests, destructive or nondestructive, the actual compressive strength of concrete and tensile and yield strength of reinforcement bars can be determined and eventually these values can be used in the analysis. It was assumed that the structural investigation report for the existing concrete building had already performed and the decision was to repair required prior starting any strengthening works. The scope of this work would cover briefly the crack types developed in concrete structure, deteriorated concrete structures due to rusting, causes of reinforcement corrosion and spalling of concrete cover, methods used and some materials for reparation and restoring section strength.
