Abstract

Due to the ascending rate of energy consumption globally and the increasing demand, need is required to increase the capacity of generation of power. In the present scenario, due to decrease in fossil fuel sources it causes to the use new technologies that depend on the renewable sources of energy such as solar energy, wind energy etc. Presently, solar energy plays an important role due to less availability of fossil fuels. The PV array efficiency is very low and power output depends on solar insulation level. DC-DC converters play an important role in many applications like Solar Electric Vehicle, Solar Water Pumping, which need boosting the lower input voltage. In order to boost the input voltage to BLDC motor and its efficient operation, various DC-DC converter topologies are used. BLDC motor is taken into consideration here because of its features which include higher power density, efficiency, low maintenance etc. This paper deals with a solar powered BLDC motor with converter topologies such as boost converter, interleaved boost converter and CUK converter. The comparison has been made between these topologies based on the performance of converters. The performance of the system has been validated using MATLAB/Simulink.
