Abstract

One of the non-traditional cutting techniques, which is utilized in many major uses as the dies and the automotive sector, is electrical discharge machinery (EDM).The main focus of this work is onsurface roughness (Ra)under the impactof gap space in EDM process. The process parameters are gap distance (SG), electrical current (Ip), pulse on time (Ton). This study is aimed primarily in reducing Ra using fixed-diameter (10 mm) copper electrodes for AISI M6.The input parameters values were used in this experiment of SG (0.015, 0.12 and 0.24) mm, Ip (10, 25 and 50) Aand Ton (100, 200 and 300) µs were used. The results of experiments showed that Ra decreased with increasing SG. Minimum Ra is (2.82 µm) at SG (0.24 mm), Ton (100 µs) and Ip (10 A).Minitab 17 software was used to perform response surface methodology (RSM). It can accurately anticipate machining reactions by providing the determination coefficient (R-sq), which determines the degree of match between experimental and projected data. The value of R-sq is (99.14 %) for Ra.
