Abstract

By using the sys-GMM model and the threshold panel model, this paper selects the 2005-2017 Chinese provincial panel data to estimate the impact of technological innovation and opening-up on industrial structure optimization. The study results are: (1) The industrial structure optimization has an inertial driving effect. That is, the industrial structure development of the previous phase has a positive impact on that of the current phase. (2) Industrial structure can be effectively optimized through technological innovation. (3) There is heterogeneity in the impact of capital and trade opening-up on the optimization of industrial structure. Capital opening-up promotes the development of the industrial structure moving towards the direction of non-agriculturalization other than advancement. While trade opening-up has hindered both directions of industrial structure optimization. (4) Taking capital opening-up and trade opening-up as threshold variables, as the threshold variable value increases, the positive impact of technological innovation on industrial structure non-agriculturalization and advancement has enhanced. At present, a few regions such as Beijing and Shanghai are at the high interval of the threshold value. (5) In terms of control variables, human capital has a role in improving both directions of industrial structure optimization; factor endowment structure shows no remarkable effect industrial structure optimization; and both fixed assets investment and economic development level negativelyaffectindustrial structure.
