Abstract

An interesting mathematical model has been proposed to study the pulsatile flow of blood through rigid circular tube under the influence of periodic body acceleration by considering blood as a couple stress fluid. The effect of body acceleration on the blood flow has been emphasized. Analytical expressions for axial velocity, flow rate and fluid acceleration have been obtained by applying the Laplace and finite Hankel transforms. The velocity profiles for various values of womersley parameter and couple stress parameter are obtained. The velocity variations with different parameters have been depicted graphically.

The present model is compared with the other existing models. A proper understanding of interactions of body acceleration with blood flow could be useful in the diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of some health problems to better design of protective pads and machines. The present investigation can be utilized for medical and engineering applications.
