Study on Self Esteem and Mental Health of Adolescent under Institutionalized Care

Abstract

Adolescence is a stage of transition that undergoes physical, emotional and social changes and challenges. Mental health problems are found to be common among adolescent and if not addressed may lead to severe damages to the life in adulthood. Self esteem is one of the factors which influence mental health. This study thus focuses on self-esteem and mental health of adolescents under institutionalized care. The findings have revealed that high self-esteem and moderate mental health are found among the adolescents under institutional care. Positive relationship is found between self-esteem and mental health. The study has provided suitable suggestions and recommendations to enhance the mental health of the adolescents.
