Abstract

Disability is a community issue that is not specific to one country from another, known as the category of disabled people with special needs. Children with disabilities are less likely to go to school compared to children without disabilities, where there is a gap in completing education for all age groups in all environments.

Studies confirmed that the number of disabled people worldwide is increasing day by day, as the percentage of disabled and people with special needs has reached 15% of the total population of the world.

These statistics attest to the need to pay attention to this category educationally to become a successful, educated and productive category of society.

It is necessary to have all the amenities and capabilities for this category to obtain the necessary education to bring them to a civilized thought and to be educated children. This can be achieved through an environment suitable for their circumstances by following design criteria and principles of educational buildings that achieve flexibility in different use easily according to their requirements without any obstacle.

The main objective is to apply design criteria and principles for the Disabled in the surrounding environment and in schools to facilitate their access to education like others, and to achieve the principle of efficiency by monitoring the reality of educational buildings for people with special needs. Through the study of design standards of educational buildings for the Disabled and those with special needs, and the possibility of architects using modern systems to achieve flexibility in the design, while adapting to the special surrounding conditions of the Disabled according to their requirements and needs in educational buildings to qualify them to face society and obtain job opportunities; thus become a productive category. Also is achieved by dealing with studies and analyses of some Models through which we reach conclusions and recommendations.
