Abstract

People world over strive to achieve a sense of satisfaction in their lives. In the current times, when the world around us is becoming more and more unpredictable and competitive, life satisfaction has become even more elusive. A large part of our experiences of life satisfaction are influenced by the emotions we experience within ourselves and in our interpersonal interactions. In light of this, the current study aims to explore the key dimensions of emotional intelligence and their impact on life satisfaction especially among employees working in the Indian IT sector since this sector is amongst the largest employers in India. Further, the employees have been exposed to extremely challenging situations and higher workload. The study was done on a sample of 152 respondents across different age groups and educational levels. They were given the “Leadership Toolkit (EI) Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire”(1995- Daniel Goleman)andThe Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS; Diener, Emmnos, Larsen, & Griffin, 1985).Independent t-test and ANOVA was used to compare the emotional intelligence across various groups (Age, Gender and Educational Qualification).Pearson Corelation was calculated and the results found a significant relationship between three dimensions of emotional Intelligence namely Self Awareness, Motivating Oneself and Managing Emotions and Life Satisfaction. Further, through multiple regression it was identified that Self-Awareness and Managing emotions are significant predictors of Life Satisfaction.
