Abstract

The term vehicular adhoc networks usually called as VANET’s refers to all the vehicular networks which are created in an adhoc manner where different moving vehicles come in contact with the other vehicles in a wireless medium and exchanges some useful information. Communication in the adhoc networks where there is a dynamically changing topology makes it difficult for the communication between the vehicles. The communication which takes place between the vehicles also known as nodes should be in a secure way to identify the malicious nodes in the adhoc network. To address this issue, many authentication schemes is introduced by various researchers. In this paper, RSA secure authentication scheme is proposed. The main objective is to provide authentication for the nodes in the network which helps to prevent many security attacks in VANET. The proposed method is analysed with two different protocol namely Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Destination Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV). The network performance metrics considered are packet delivery ratio (PDR), throughput and routing overhead. DSDV protocol gives better packet delivery ratio, throughput and routing overhead when compared to AODV. Also it is observed when number of nodes increases, the DSDV protocol performs better than AODV.
