Sludge Thickeners Establishment PLC Based in AL-Rusafa Water Treatment
Abstract
Sludge Thickener management is a complicated stage which is considered one of the most important water treatment units to obtain high-quality water while maintaining a reduction in the number of chemical materials added to water since they negatively affect the environment, in addition, to preserve delivering the amount of water required to people without affecting the type and amount of water. This paper demonstrates the process of simulation, implementation, and construction of an intelligent, effective, small and affordable controller using Schneider type programmed logic controller (PLC) in the Large Rusafa Water Treatment Project (LRWTP) in Baghdad, Iraq. The system increases clay production, reduces polymer and alum, and raises the quality of dissolved water where the number of clays extracted increases by 400 cubic meters/day while reducing the amount of alum by 23% and of the polymer by 58%.
