Abstract

This paper proposes the power factor correction (PFC) techniques implemented in converters by controlling the line current with the help of hysteresis current control technique. In this scheme of current control in which two sinusoidal current references are generated; one for the upper limit and the other for the valley of the inductor current which is lower limit. Switches are controlled in such manner that current follows the inductor up and down with respect to reference. Power factor is improved by injecting the inner current loop which eventually changes the shape of input current from non-sinusoidal to sinusoidal. According to this control technique, the switch is turned on when the inductor current goes below the lower reference and is turned off when the inductor current goes above the upper reference giving rise to a variable frequency control. Simulation using MATLAB/ Simulink has been performed to verify the performance of multilevel inverters.
