Abstract

The image compression literature imparts the knowledge of image-demosaicking and image-interpolation for accompanying the effective lossy image compression. The demosaicking techniques diminishes the size of data to represent the image. The interpolation methods upsample the image effectively. The existing image compression techniques are suffered by less eye-perception-quality. To solve this drawback, in this paper both the techniques of demosaicking and interpolation are used to make an effective lossy image compression. This paper develops a novel image demosaicking method namely ‘Hexagon Pattern and Edge Direction guided Demosaicking (HPEDD)’ to have an better image compression. The HPEDD demosaicking and the Bilinear interpolation is integrated to have a better image compression method which is named as HPEDD-BL method. The HPEDD demosaicking method is involved with the concepts such as Green-Error, Discrete cosine transform (DCT) and Hexagon pattern. The experimental results show that the proposed method can make potential improvements in image compression than the existing methods in case of PSNR and Compression Ratio.
