A Study on Women Workers in Agricultural Field in Kanyakumari District

Abstract

In India, women undertake around 80 per cent of farm work but they own only 13 percent of the land. Women constitute over 42 percent of the agricultural labour force in India, but own less than two per cent of farmland. Women in agriculture are facing lot of issues in land rights. The root of the problem begins at the official lack of recognition of the female agricultural worker such as institutional credit, pension, irrigation sources, etc. This study tries to find the reasons for the problems faced by the women workers in agricultural field in kanyakumari district and also aims to give reasonable suggestion for these problems. The objectives of the study are to find out the significant difference in age, experience and income of women workers and their level of satisfaction and also to analyse the expectations and problems faced by women workers in agricultural field. The sample selected for the study is 150 women agricultural workers. This study observes that among the different problems faced by the women workers, the major problems faced by the respondents are harassment, health problem, work burden, working hours, no allowance and low wage etc
