An Efficient Approach for Resource Allocation based on Priority and Link Scheduling in Heterogeneous CRN

Abstract

Multimedia communication is a platform where resource requirement changes with scenario. Different services that use Cognitive Radio Networks will have different levels of resource demands. High end services like live streaming expect zero or minimal delay during communication, whereas services like simple document transfer can tolerate some delay. Interruption in communication is mainly caused when switching of channels takes place. Based on the type and quality expectation of service, we propose an Efficient Approach for Resource Allocation based on Priority and Link Scheduling (EARAPLS) scheme in this paper. For a high end service, our scheme dedicates or reserves the channels, links and other related resources till the end of service as much as possible. This avoids unnecessary disruptions in communication as no switching takes place, thereby improving performance. Simulation results prove that the proposed scheme brings down channel switching considerably hence minimizing disruptions during communication.
