Abstract

The need for an efficient technique for compression of images is always increasing, because the raw images need a large amount of disk space, which seems to be a big disadvantage during transmission and storage. Despite the fact that there are many compression strategies available, a better technique that is faster, simpler, and requires less memory will definitely suit the needs of the user. In this paper, we proposed the hybrid Discrete Cosine Transform and Walsh Hadamard Transform (1D-DCT and 1D-WHT) method of image compression and decompression to achieve higher compression performance. The results proved that the proposed developed JPEG algorithm compresses images better than standard JPEG approaches. To evaluate the compression level, the quantitative metrics of the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), mean square error (MSE), and compression ratio (CR) are utilized to ensure the effectiveness of the suggested system. On the MATLAB platform, the algorithm was created and implemented.
