Paralanguage in Manager-Subordinate Communication

Abstract

Over the years, great emphasis has been given to communication in the workplace. Paralanguage or the aspects of voice has a great impact in workplace among employees. With the cultural diversity and sensitivity in an organization, healthy communication is the need of the hour. We’ve seen the importance of healthy communication in the recent pandemic situation not just in real time, but also through the digital medium. 

This paper attempts to study the paralangual factors that affect communication between managers and subordinates within an organization based in East Sikkim. In this paper the primary data collected were from the subordinates’ perspective and a questionnaire was used to gather the responses. The overall results show the need of using appropriate aspects of voice by the managers.
