Abstract

This paper explains the performance evaluation of a single and double pass Solar Air Heater by CFD simulation and experimentation. Analysis were done for different mass flow rates and its effect on the thermal and flow behaviour is studied and are compared with the results of the simulation.Simulation is carried out for different inlet air temperature (30O, 32O, 34O& 36OC) incident solar radiation (650, 750 &850 W/m2) and different air inlet velocities (0.05, 0.15, 0.25 & 0.35m/s). Simulation result shows that the outlet temperature increases with the increase in incident solar radiation and inlet air temperature and decreases with the increase in inlet air velocities for both the types of SAHs. Experimental results show that the optimum performance of the SPSFSAH and SPDFSAH are in the mass flow rate range of 0.015 – 0.025kg/s and 0.02 – 0.03kg/s respectively
