Abstract

Brain tumors can have debilitating effect on quality of life and the impact on quality of life depends on the location where it occurs. Since the human brain is a vital part in the human body, the impact of malignancy may disrupt the physical health of an individual. There are different modalities of treatment available in treating a brain tumor and the success of the treatment depends on how early the tumor is detected. The earlier discovery may reduce the rate of mortality and leads to higher rate of recovery from tumors. In this paper, we develop a segmentation model that acts as an effective way to find the tumor at its early stage. The study initially extracts the images from a database and applies a high pass filter for image pre-processing. Once the image gets preprocessed, the image enhancement is carried out using Luminance Edge Detector. Finally, the enhanced image is applied with modified watershed segmentation (MWS) algorithm that finds and separates the region of brain tumors from MRI Image. The study is validated in terms of various performance metrics over existing state-of-art segmentation models. The results of the simulation reveals that the efficiency of segmentation by the proposed model is better than of the existing state-of-art models.
