Abstract

Optimum recourse utilization and efficient energy consumption have a great role for showcasing the operational performance of manufacturing industries. The decision making for the resource reallocation and policy change for organizational performance improvement is crucial to the management due to its impact in the variation of plant productivity. Encompassing this risk in an effectual exploitation of modern technological tools is functionalizing by the management for overcoming these outfitted constraints.

The performance improvement in a feed manufacturing industry has taken as the objective of this mission. A detailed system analysis has governed and the pelletizing unit has identified as the origination of major constraints. The critical operating parameters of the key performance indicators are identified in the four processing lines as part of the data analytics. The organizational performance can be improved through the selection and application of suitable optimization tool in the constraint identified area. Linear programming is a powerful optimization tool widely applied in industry for captivating decision making.

The objective function in the problem has derived through the practice of the optimum quantity identification of the various types of raw materials for mixing in the material flow line of the selected animal feed production unit. The feed is produced in batches and the concerned process parameters related to batch production is used to construct the proposed linear programming framework. The major constrains identified in the production process are the variables associated with the poor capacity utilization of the raw material feeding line and the chockfull running of the flow lines which consumes excess energy. In order to optimize the performance parameters for this problem the linear modeling tool has been opted as the best method due to its capacity to solve its relationship with the identified variables and inequalities. The performance improvement has been finally achieved by the feed unit by the optimum quantity allocation of the various raw materials in different lines and the energy consumption is optimized in seventeen production line operation.
