Abstract

Apocalyptic wars, great economic depression, different revolutions in the world followed by the linguistic tern to the theory of knowledge have challenged the philosophy of humanism and the reality of sovereign and absolute self. These phenomena have given rise to the emergence of the realist discourse which explains the complex process of subject formation through the interplay of ideology and consciousness.  The reality of identity has therefore occupied the central position not only in literary, intellectual and philosophical theories but also in sociological, psychological, economic and political discourses. The philosophy of structuralism and poststructuralism expound the reality of identity and its constitution and transformation within the Diasporic realities. ChitraBanarjeeDivakaruni in her novels has represented different aspects of Diasporic consciousness which can be explained through the philosophical tenets of structuralism and poststructuralism. The present paper intends to explore the representation of Diasporic consciousness in selected novels of ChitraBanarjee Divakaruni.
