Privacy Zones Investigation of Human Needs in Residential Spaces During Covid-19(Jordan & Bahrein as a Case Study)

Abstract

Housing design has significantly and gradually changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the whole world has experienced dramatic changes in all aspects of life. As we adapt our everyday lives to restrictions and limitations to fight the pandemic, it also has become a trigger for us to rethink and reposition knowledge on spatial design disciplines. The aims of this study were to investigate the privacy zones in residential spaces and propose interior design indicators to provide ideal utilization of indoor residential spaces during COVID-19 pandemic. This study used quantitative and qualitative methods to collect data by conducting a questionnaire which covered demographic questions, Study/Work area and Entertainment area questions, and using case study analyzing. The questionnaire was sent to the students and staff fromPetra University-Jordan and Gulf University-Bahrain. The result has shown that the participants from both countries regulate their privacy by providing multifunctioning spaces with minimum partition and boundaries. Also offer a certain degree of flexibility and had the potential to be expanded in these pandemics’ conditions.
