Detecting Smelly Formulas in Spreadsheets

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze spreadsheets and detect formula smells present in them. The detection of formula smells is very important, as it effects the maintainability and increases complexity of spreadsheets. Different spreadsheets from the EUSES Corpus are analyzed and different types of formula smells like duplicate code, long calculation chain etc. are detected in this research paper.. Further, refactoring suggestions have been proposed for all the detected code smells. The proposed refactoring suggestions can thus be incorporated by users in the spreadsheets.
