Research on Oil Drainage Method of Converter Transformer Based on Fire Safety

Abstract

Large oil immersed converter transformer has been widely used in UHV project as power equipment. However, in recent years, the fire accidents of oil immersed converter transformer occur frequently. Because the converter transformer has a lot of insulating oil, once a fire occurs, the fire is generally difficult to control, and the scope of the fire is very large, often causing huge economic losses and serious social impact. Based on the data of static and combustion oil drain test of oil immersed transformer, this paper puts forward the emergency oil drain scheme of converter transformer by investigating the existing manual oil drain valve of converter transformer. With the implementation of this scheme, the insulating oil in the converter transformer can be discharged below the valve side casing riser within 2 hours. It can ensure that the equipment in the most important valve hall of the converter station will not be affected by the fire, thus fundamentally containing the expansion of the fire range and reducing the loss of important equipment. At the end of the paper, the measures and suggestions for fire prevention and control of converter transformer are put forward.
