Enlightenment of Cognitive Linguistics on English Vocabulary Teaching

Abstract

Vocabulary is an indispensable building material to form a language. Vocabulary knowledge is an important part of language ability. Therefore, vocabulary teaching is the key to improve students' English level. As a new paradigm in linguistics, cognitive linguistics plays an important role in College English vocabulary teaching because of its unique characteristics. From the perspective of cognitive linguistics, this paper puts forward some measures to apply the principles of cognitive linguistics to college English vocabulary teaching. This paper also discusses the new concepts of College English vocabulary teaching by means of the categorization theory, prototype theory and metaphor theory of cognitive linguistics. The experimental results show that the model can improve the efficiency of English vocabulary teaching. The results are of great reference value for the study of cognitive linguistics theory in English vocabulary teaching.
