Abstract

Textiles are an important and irreplaceable factor in interior design. This is due to their role in supporting and enhancing the other elements of interior design such as colors, patterns, form, texture, lines & lighting. They can help set a tone or bring these elements together for a very finished appearance. Textile products used in interior design include carpets, rugs, curtains, cushions, upholstered furniture and even items like towels and bed linens. Therefore Textiles are one of many elements that interior designers use in planning the look of an interior environment. They most often appear in interiors as upholstery cover materials for chairs, sofas, and cushions; as bed and table covers; and in window treatment, usually called by the traditional term drapery. Textiles also appear as woven floor coverings, such as carpets and rugs. Other uses include curtains in locations other than windows (for example, at door openings) and as wall-covering material. Interior designers use textiles as an important tool to create a mood and set the tone for a space based on a client's needs and the space's intended purpose. They make choices about what types of textures, colors, and patterns to use to create the desired effect. Some textile designers specialize in creating textiles for interior design purposes. These professionals have to be very knowledgeable about the various types of textiles. However, previous scientific literature does not recognize textiles as an element of interior design like the aforementioned elements. While other references consider furniture, accessories and lighting as major components in the interior palette, with no mention of textiles. Here, the research focuses on the importance of textile categories as a major element of interior design, psychologically, functionally and aesthetically
