Abstract

The aim of this investigation is to identify and assess the main challenges for building information modelling BIM application in the Iraqi construction sector. A mixed-method approach of structured interviews and questionnaire survey was used in this research to achieve the study purpose. To assess these challenges of BIM, we developed an assessment model based on fuzzy set theory. The top five obstacles of BIM implementation in the construction sector in Iraq, according to the findings, are: Lack of contact in the organisation was ranked first with a score of 13.78, followed by Lack of BIM preparation with a score of 13.21, Lack of communication in the organisation with a score of 13.08, Lack of BIM experience with a score of 12.97, and Cost of data and information exchange with a score of 12.25. This research's outcomes are of significant importance as they provide the management team with the indications of the possible challenges of BIM application, especially since this new technology is still not properly adopted.
