Abstract

With the growing population per decade, the primary concern is providing the facility as per future requirement too. The increased population will also cause increase in the congestion due more vehicles on roads. This will cause difficulties and problems like wear and tear of vehicles, more accidents which will directly cause loss of life and property. The loss of independent population will hamper the growth of our nation. Thus the paper deals with the feasibility analysis of Bhiwandi-Shilphata road, Mumbai. The process of estimation of future traffic by real time surveys of traffic count and axle road survey has been done. This estimation of traffic is used for deciding the number of lanes required for the carrying the future traffic for the design period of next 20years. All the analysis had been done by considering the guidelines provided by IRC. With the traffic count survey, carried out for the week during peak days, the Actual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) has been found out to be 803Veh/day. The AADT data has been used for deciding the number of lanes required as per IRC for the design period of 20years. The paper concludes that, for carrying the increased traffic after 20years on Bhiwandi-Kalyan-Shilphata road, the number of lanes has to be increased by two lanes (one in each side) which is currently a 4-lane road.
