Abstract

After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a risk of infection by public transportation. Therefore, various policies have been introduced to record the ride information of bus passengers. If an infected case is found, follow-up information can be traced.  So we designed a real-time bus passenger flow monitoring system based on Wi-Fi probe.  The Wi-Fi probe can detect the MAC address that can uniquely represent the mobile phone, and we can use this to determine passenger information and then determine the trajectory of the car.  In addition, the Wi-Fi probe can also detect the Received Signal Strength Indication(RSSI). We use RSSI-Based positioning algorithm to get the coordinates of each mobile phone. The obtained coordinates are compared with the coordinates of the eight vertices of the bus to determine the collected data.  Whether it is the passengers in the car or the pedestrians outside the car, and then excludes the information outside the car.  In short, the system can not only real-time ride the number of passengers on the bus, but also determine the information of the passengers and trace the trajectory of the passengers.
