Abstract

Soil moisture is the main factor affecting agricultural production and plays an important role in meteorology and water science. Therefore, it is very important to monitor soil moisture accurately. In this paper, AMSR-E soil moisture daily products were downloaded from American Snow and Ice Data Center. The soil moisture value of Henan Province was retrieved by projection conversion, cropping, merging and extraction of pixel values, and then compared with the data obtained from China Meteorological Network as the real value to verify the accuracy of AMSR-E products in Henan Province, and to analyze the impact of precipitation on AMSR-E soil moisture products. The results show that: (1) The soil moisture data obtained from AMSR-E inversion were significantly smaller than the real data. (2) The correlation R2 between AMSR-E data and real values was 0.705 from September to November 2008, which indicates that AMSR-E has the potential to accurately retrieve soil moisture in Henan Province. (3) The correlation between AMSR-E data and real values was better in January and February when rainfall was less, but in July and August when rainfall was more, the correlation was worse, which indicates that AMSR-E soil moisture products are affected by rainfall to some extent.
